Inside Charter School Education: A Local Twist On a National Movement

Important education commentary in a community that values school choice and high quality education.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my column.  I am the Director of San Carlos Charter Learning Center, in San Carlos, CA.  We are the oldest operating charter school in the state.  I am also a local San Carlos resident.  As one of the leaders of the California charter school movement, I look forward to bringing to you important news and information about public education all while keeping it both local and relevant for the community.  I welcome your comments and your feedback as we discuss the important education news of the day as it relates to San Carlos and the Peninsula.

My mission, as an advocate for public charter schools and public education in general, is to share with the community a perspective on education in and around the Peninsula through the lens of a charter school leader.  Public education has never been more under attack in California than it is right now.  The Superintendent of the San Carlos Public Schools, Craig Baker, recently said that, adjusting for inflation, California actually spent more money on K-12 public education back during the Great Depression compared to what it spends on public education today.  It is the Dark Ages for California public schools.
