• Chris Mahoney: Director San Carlos Charter Learning Center Neighbor

  • San Carlos, CA

Welcome to my column.   I am the Director of San Carlos Charter Learning Center, in San Carlos, CA.  We are the oldest operating charter school in California.  I am also a local San Carlos resident.  This is a personal blog and the views that are shared are exclusively my views.  It does not represent the views of San Carlos Charter Learning Center or its Board of Directors.

As one of the leaders of the California charter school movement, I look forward to bringing to you important news and information about K-12 education all while keeping it both local and relevant for our community.  I welcome your comments and your feedback as we discuss the important education news of the day as it relates to San Carlos and the Peninsula.

My mission, as an advocate for charter schools, is to share with the community a perspective on education in and around the Peninsula through the lens of a charter school leader.  Public education has never been more under attack in California than it is right now.  The Superintendent of the San Carlos Public Schools, Craig Baker, recently said that, adjusting for inflation, California actually spent more money on public education back during the Great Depression compared to what it spends on public education today.  It is the Dark Ages for California public schools.
