Traffic Flowing on Bay Bridge After Suspicious Device Removed

However, cars are not allowed to exit onto Treasure Island from the Bay Bridge.

A suspicious device that was found on the Bay Bridge Friday afternoon, causing the bridge to be shut down in both directions for 35 minutes, has been removed by police, but a severe traffic alert remains in effect on eastbound I-80 at Treasure Island Road, according to Caltrans officials.

Cars not allowed to exit onto Treasure Island from Bay Bridge. Traffic can leave Treasure Island heading east, but not toward San Francisco.

As of 3:25 p.m. Friday, all lanes are open on westbound I-80 on the Bay Bridge,
Traffic is backed to Richmond westbound and from northbound 101 and 280 to the lower deck.

Traffic reporter Sal Castaneda tweeted this afternoon, "Honestly folks if you don't have to drive on Bay Bridge tonight, don't. Several events drawing more people to SF. BART good option."

This traffic problem could not have come at a worse time, as Friday evening is expected to be "carmageddon," with major music and sporting events taking place in San Francisco, Oakland and on the Peninsula.
