As one of two middle schools in San Carlos, Central Middle School boasts some of the highest test scores in theMore area.

STAR scores showed dramatic increases among eighth-graders in history (20 points), science (8 points) and English (5 points), though they did see a decrease in math scores this past year (2 points). Those scores, however, put Central Middle School in the upper echelon of Bay Area middle schools.

Principal Lynette Hovland says the school's mission statement is "to create an exemplary middle school in San Carlos for all students by providing a rich curriculum with well-defined standards that empower students to develop and appreciate learning and a commitment to responsible citizenship."

For parents, an online service known as "School Loop" is provided to keep them abreast of activities and happenings. Various other parent/teacher mailing lists are also available. A PTA has also been designated to ensure parent involvement in the school.

Central also has a vibrant and successful sports program, including basketball, soccer and baseball for both boys and girls.

Most students at Central come from White Oaks Elementary, Brittan Acres or Arundel.
