Stray Dog Evades Good Samaritans All Weekend

The dog that has been wandering the Hallmark neighborhood of Belmont and Club Drive in San Carlos is still on the loose.

Despite the best efforts of concerned residents and Peninsula Humane Society animal control officers, the that's been roaming the Hallmark neighborhood has evaded rescue. The dog was last seen on Club Drive in San Carlos on Sunday afternon.

The medium-sized honey-colored dog with pointy ears and a tail that curls, resembles the Asian breed, Shiba Inu, and has even be mistaken for a coyote in low light. It is gentle, but skittish and runs off whenever anyone has tried to reach out to it.

Emails and text messages were exchanged throughout the weekend between people who had seen the dog and tried to catch it, or at least corral the animal until animal control officers arrived.

One woman said the dog accepted some food from her on Friday afternoon, but ran off when she tried to lasso him with a leash. The dog has no collar or tags. It is unknown if the dog belongs to anyone in the neighborhood.

If you have any information about the dog, contact the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA at 650-340-7022 or email joan.dentler@patch.com.

Poor dog. I hope he is found soon and goes to a loving home!

Me too.....I've tried to nab him several times and even put a bowl of food and water on the sidewalk in front of my house because he's run by a few times. PHS knows of the situation so hopefully they'll be back tomorrow to rescue the poor guy.

Joan, Good work. He looks like if caught, he would be a great potential pet for someone in the neighborhood. In your spare time, in between news stories and photo's, give it another try today.

According to a post on Facebook he's been reunited with his owner.

Thank you residents of Belmont & San Carlos for watching over our doggie and helping us to reunite. One clue from Linda on Crestview and Buttercup broke the case right open. After combing the neighborhood, and asking everyone, more clues came of his "on the run habits" Many phone calls this morning too led us to reunite about 8:00.
