Harlem Globetrotters to Host Clinics in San Mateo Monday and Tuesday

Dizzy Grant and Jacob 'Hops' Tucker will conduct four Summer Skills Clinics at the 24-Hour Fitness in San Mateo on Monday and Tuesday.

San Mateo will get its own small brush with celebrity early this week when two members of the famous Harlem Globetrotters exhibition basketball team will arrive in San Mateo to teach Summer Skills Classes for local kids.

Dizzy Grant and Jacob "Hops" Tucker - the reigning 2011 College Slam Dunk Champion - will be at the at 93 Bovet Road in San Mateo on Monday and Tuesday to teach classes for boys and girls, age 6-14. No basketball experience is required for children to participate.

Children will play scrimmages and practice drills while building confidence and learning social and teamwork skills, organizers say.

Additional perks will be given to families who participate, as well - the family of each child will receive a complimentary ticket voucher to see the Harlem Globetrotters live on their next tour, along with free three-day passes to the 24-Hour Fitness gym, and getting to have their pictures taken with the Harlem Globetrotters, which the team members will autograph.

The San Mateo clinics will take place on Monday, June 25 and Tuesday, June 26. Two sessions will be offered each day - 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 2-5 p.m. The cost for each clinic is $59.
