Deadline Approaching for Sister City Exchange Program

Local high school students have until May 1 to apply for a spot in this year's San Carlos Sister City Exchange Program for an opportunity to study in Omura, Japan. The deadline for Metepec, Mexico is June 30.

[Editor's note: This is the final in a three-part series about the San Carlos Sister City Association's summer exchange program by Patch contributor Aparna Bhat. Local students are invited to apply to study in sister cities in Ōmura, Japan and Metepec, Mexico this summer.]

An informational meeting for the program will be held Tuesday, April 30 at the Main Redwood City Library in the Community Room, 4:45 - 6 p.m.

Students ages 15 – 18 from San Mateo through Menlo Park are welcome to apply to the Student Exchange Program, where they will be hosted by English-speaking families in either Ōmura or Metepec, depending on which program they apply to.

Students traveling to Metepec will be accompanied by a Spanish-speaking chaperone in order to make communication more seamless, but both programs are tailored toward English-speaking students and families. A small financial award may be provided to student delegates who are accepted into the program, funded by the San Carlos Sister City Association. The only costs are for travel and personal expenses.
