San Carlos' Paye's Performance Pays Dividends

Paye's Performance had three girls' volleyball teams compete in the Open Division of the USAV Girls' Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend.

San Carlos resident Ellie Shannon, who will be a senior at Sacred Heart Prep in the fall, was part of the San Carlos-based Paye's Performance 17 Black girls' volleyball team that finished third in the Open Division at the USAV Girls' Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend.

The Open Division is the best of the best, with many players recruited to compete in top college programs.

Paye's 15 team finished 14th (out of 32 teams) and Paye's 14 team was 18th.

Shannon's 17-year-old team won seven of the nine matches they played during the national tournament. The 15s were 7-3 and the 14s finished 5-5.

Paye's 17 is coached by Belmont resident Jen Agresti, who played Division I volleyball at Washington State. She was helped by Lawrence Dudash, Amy Poullos and Kristin Spindt.

Team members, in addition to Shannon, are Christine Alftin, Phoebe Grunt, Kyra Holt, Shelby Knowles, Jennifer Petrovich, Haley Roe (who has a sister playing for the UC-Berkeley women's volleyball team), Mary Shepherd, Ali Spindt, Alexandra Sullberg, Lucy Tashman, and Catherine Wes.

Paye's 15 Black team, coached by Marietta Flynn, Kelly Burke and Dudash, is comprised of mostly high school sophomores to be like Atherton resident Victoria Garrick, Burlingame resident Tatum Novitzky and San Mateo resident Katrina Samonte. Amelia Tupou will be a junior at Carlmont.

The rest of the roster includes Audrey Arnold, Connor Bunka, Pamela Dungo, Jaelah Hutchison, Brianna Karsseboom, Jennifer Kellogg and Ella Lajos.

Paye's 14 Black team is coached by David Huan, who has been at St. Francis in Mountain View, Menlo-Atherton High School, Palo Alto High School, and Notre Dame de Namur University. He's helped by Menlo College volleyball player Jessica Atthowe.

The roster includes Rudra Aiyar, Clarisse Chan, Rosalyn Chiang, Katherine Claybaugh, Michelle Gajdka, Chanti Holroyd, Anna Joshi, Janet Lao, Mavis Lui, Grace Roberts Burbank, Maia So-Holloway and Roxanne Wiblin.
