Petaluma Little League at World Series
It was, quite simply, a game with two winners and no losers. Only winners come back from 10 runs back in the sixth inning. Only winners stare down adversity.
It was over. Goodlettsville, Tennessee took a 15-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. Petaluma is good, but not that good, really?
Petaluma needed a late rally in the area tournament just to advance. They scored seven runs to tie San Ramon in the sixth inning weeks ago and went on to win that game in extra innings to earn a spot at the state level.
But this was the Little League World Series United States Championship game, between the last two American teams standing and Tennessee was in complete control.

At least that's what everybody -- save for that tiny band of players from Petaluma -- thought.
Cole Tomei had a two-run double in the sixth, and Hance Smith's solo shot with two outs gave California an improbable 15-15 tie.
The teams combined for 35 hits in a game that lasted more than three hours.
