Cain Memorablia Headed For Cooperstown

In a brief ceremony before the San Francisco Giants played the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night, Giants' pitcher Matt Cain donated several items from his June 13, 2012 perfect game effort against the Houston Astros to the Baseball Hall of Fame, headqu

There's the baseball, scuffed and dirtied.

Matt Cain's hat also sits there, a little out of place on the table. You can barely make out any sweat stains.

Cain's cleats are nudged alongside the hat, facing a jar full of AT&T Park dirt, and all huddled up to first base, the site of the final out.

The items are all part of history now and will spend the rest the rest of eternity among other items associated with great feats in Major League Baseball.

A representative from the Hall of Fame was in town to accept the items, along with game tickets, the official scorer's report, a couple of newspaper headlines and two pictures, including the iconic one of Buster Posey about to jump into Cain's arms after the final pitch.

"I feel like a little kid," said veteran blogger Jeremy Kahn, a devoted Detroit Tigers' fan, while viewing the collection.

He was in good company among men of a certain age. A child-like delight overtakes many men and women when they come into contact with such a rare sporting feat.
