Cain Honored Friday for Perfect Game

The San Francisco Giants dedicated a plaque to Can's perfect game on the Board Walk beyond the right field fence.

Matt Cain, wearing a lai, took to the podium and expressed his gratitude to teammates, the San Francisco Giants organization and the Giants' fan for their part in the perfect game he threw on June 13, 2012, the day before "San Carlos Day" at the Giants game.

"It is something special in my heart," Cain told the crowd, "to have a plaque in center field, outside the park, where anyone can come back in 50, 100 years and it is part of history. I feel that deeply in my heart."

Cain became the first pitcher in the 130-year history of the Giants' franchise to throw a perfect game and just the 22nd in major league history.

"I am still in awe of the fans who have come up to me and told me their stories of where they were that i," Cain said. "The Giants gave me the opportunity out of high school. They took a chance on a 17-year-old kid. Ten years later I'm standing here again thanking them for taking that chance."

Cain also presented outfielder Gregor Blanco with a special momento of the game, a framed picture of the celebration and a special note. Blanco made a catch in right field that not only saved Cain's perfect game but was, he said latwer, the best catch he's ever made.
