San Carlos Youngsters Shine in Pied Piper Play

Local talent soars on the stage at the Bayside Performing Arts Center.

San Carlan Danielle Croft, 13, is a Carlmont middle schooler with big theater dreams. Which is why it isn’t much of a surprise to see her one-upping Carol Burnett in the lead role of Princess Winnifred the Woebegone in the Pied Piper players "Once Upon A Mattress..." musical, playing this weekend at the Bayside Peforming Arts Center.

And she isn’t the only San Carlos resident lighting up the stage. Jessica Rice, 17, and a student at Sequoia High School, is also prominently featured in a lead role as Lady Larken.

The play will be held a 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2 p.m. on May 5, and 2 p.m. on May 6. Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for seniors and children under 17. Visit www.piedpiperplayers.org for tickets.

In smaller cameo singing roles, Emily Mannion, 7, and her sister Katie, 10, sisters at Arundel School will be playing Young Winnifred and the Nightingale of Smarkand.

The play opened last weekend, but there are three more performances this weekend. The Bayside Performing Arts Center is located at 2025 Kehoe Avenue, San Mateo.
