San Mateo County school officials and law enforcement are holding a public forum on school safety in San Carlos tonight.
The sheriff's office is teaming up with the San Carlos School District to educate parents and community members on what is being done to ensure the safety of students on and around school campuses, sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said.
The meeting, which will cover topics such as dealing with intruders at schools, cyber safety for children and traffic safety, comes largely in response to the recent fatal shooting of 20 elementary school children in Newtown, Conn., Rosenblatt said.
School administrators, counselors, teachers and representatives from the sheriff's office will be on hand to give a presentation and answer questions from the community.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the San Carlos Library, located at 610 Elm St.
