Major Earthquake Drill Set to Impact Thursday
The Great California ShakeOut will see students all over San Mateo County (and California) preparing for the worst.
Written by Matthew Sanderson and Jacob Bourne:
Students in schools across San Mateo County are ready to drop, cover and hold as they prepare for the annual “ShakeOut” earthquake drill on Oct.17 at 10:17 a.m.
The local kids will join the much of the rest of California in participating in the Great California ShakeOut drill.
All participants will stop what they are doing and react as if an earthquake has occurred: drop to the ground, take cover under something sturdy and hold on.
Here is a list of local schools participating:

Anyone visiting government buildings during the drill will be directed to take the same action. The drill will last approximately two minutes and customer service to the public will be disrupted for a short amount of time.
Officials urge all residents and businesses to become better prepared for major earthquakes by participating in the drill. California is a high earthquake risk area. If practiced now, when an earthquake actually occurs, San Mateo County will take the correct action.
