Local Schools Get Involved in CCS Tournaments

Carlmont among boys basketball teams to win CCS openers on Tuesday.

 

The Central Coast Section wrestling tournament begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Independence High School in San Jose.

Menlo-Atherton's Austin Wilson, the Peninsula Athletic League champion at 128 pounds, will be among those with a chance to qualify for the state meet.

Half Moon Bay High had five PAL champions in Joseph Lowman, who defended his title at 174 pounds, 122-pounder Spencer Boling, Neal Seaton at 197 pounds, Marcos Sarabia (222) and Jose Ayon (287).

South San Francisco’s Arthur Georgiyev won the 182-pound title and is the top seed in the weight class for the CCS tournament. Lowman is seeded second in his weight division.

Terra Nova’s Abdallah Mahmoud and Aaron Williams also won titles. Williams won at 154 pounds. Mahmoud won the 162-pound title and is seeded sixth in the CCS tournament. El Camino High’s Marion Diokno (106) and Christian Diokno (113) also won titles and earned seeds.

Serra High, the West Catholic Athletic League champions, has several seeded wrestlers in the CCS tournament, including Luis Alvarez (fifth, 106 pounds), Elias Hernandez (second, 113), Jerry Delarosa (third, 132), Phillip Becerra (sixth, 152), and Chad Thodus (sixth, 182).
