It's Time to Enroll for Kindergarten and Pre-K

Open enrollment for 2013-2014 school year closes on March 1st.

It may be hard to believe, but it's time to start thinking about the 2013-14 school year, and enrolling kindergarteners and pre-kindergarteners in the San Carlos School District (SCSD).

According to the district's website, all students wishing to enroll anytime at the District Office, 826 Chestnut Street from 8:30am and 4pm. The registration process is centralized at the District office for all schools except the San Carlos Charter Learning Center (Visit their website for registration procedures). The district requests parents/guardians go to other individual schools to register.

The enrollment process is as follows:

Download the New Kindergarten Enrollment Application Form or the New Transitional Kindergarten Enrollment Application Form and the Home Language Survey

After forms are completed, submit to the District Office, along with the original birth certificate and proof of residency (copies will be made at the District Office).

Important date:

  • Enrollment applications can be submitted Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. (or by appointment) through March 1, 2013.
  • All registrations received by March 1, 2013 will be included in the initial school placement for the 2013-2014 school year.  Registration will remain open for San Carlos School District residents after March 1st, and placements are made once a week on Friday.
  • Monday, March 4, 2013, the District will hold a lottery (if necessary) for all incoming Kindergartners who live in the SCSD boundaries.  District will then notify all families as to where their child’s placement will be for the coming school year.  (Decisions to be made as per Board adopted “preferences” procedures).
  • At the beginning of April 2013, parents will receive additional instructions and access to complete the Online Registration Process using InfoSnap (our online student data entry system).  In addition, The CHDP Health Assessment and the Oral Health Assessment must be performed after March 31, 2013.  Parents will need to submit the CHDP Health Examination Form and the Oral Health Assessment Form to their school secretary prior to the start of the school year.

District officials say that if a family has not received placement information by March 18, they should call the district registrar, Carolina De Vito at 650-508-7333.

If the city council likes fake plastic nature, then let them saran-wrap their own yards! LEAVE OURRead More PARKS ALONE!! This is soccer special interest pressure on city government at its worst, and the city council appears unwilling or unable to withstand it. Crestview Park is a particularly quiet, serene, simple park with lovely views which the council now wants to turn into a sports arena. Any day you can go there and see families playing on the grass, toddlers and moms enjoying picnics and play time, kids learning to ride their bikes on the nice flat paved area, athletes and older folks enjoying the flat natural track (the only one in San Carlos) to get in shape, teens throwing frisbees on the lawn. It is a perfect place for ALL residents to enjoy according to their needs, not a sports arena dedicated to one activity at the expense of all. Belmont faced a similar lack of sports venues, but they did not choose to pave paradise. They wisely raised money and built a sports complex and spared their beautiful parks for use by ALL residents. I would like to see our city council do the right thing also. And by the way, the opposition to this short-sighted plan is far more than "some residents"! Please visit our booth at Hometown Days.

One summer my kid had soccer camp on at an artificial turf field. It was terrible. It madeRead More everything hotter and very uncomfortable. I had to pull my kid out of camp early because of it. I do not think it is better for the environment OR for kids. Just go to any turf field and try to walk across it on a hot day. Try to go barefoot on it (good luck!) We have been told not to microwave plastic containers because of BPA and bad chemicals that can cause cancer. What about heating up plastic grass and running around on it, breathing the fumes that come off it?? How is that any different?

Artificial turf is appropriate for dedicated use sports venues, not for multi-use city parks.

Thanks for doing this. The one blatant thing I observe on a daily basis is the number and frequencyRead More of deputy's at Starbucks on 800 laurel street and the sky kitchen. I never see them in the neighborhoods. The police department was much better
