Chicken's Ball Returns In April

The San Carlos skit tradition lives on.

The San Carlos Chicken’s Ball is set to kick off next month on April 15, and continue on through April 20,-22, and 26-28.

Started more than seven decades ago by San Carlos school teacher Howard Demeke as an idea to unite the community and raise money for schools, the event – a friendly skit competition - has become a citywide tradition, and one of the longest continuously running shows of all time.

“This bawdy raucous and risqué community tradition raises money for the seven public schools in San Carlos,” said Sonya Sigler.

This year, the show will celebrate its 37th biennial production with the Belles of the Barbary Coast.

Ticket prices for the April 15th Preview Matinee are $25 balcony, $20 center floor, and $15 side floor, all other shows are $35 balcony, $25 center floor, and $20 side floor. No one under 16 is admitted.

Tickets are on sale online at chickensball.org.

Dear Patch, The chickens ball is not an annual event. It happens Bi-Annually. This is not the 73rd performance. The first Ball was in1940. Its a San Carlos PTA fundraiser; the oldest in the country and the theme was inspired by the Chickens Ball Salloon competit ions of the Barbary Coast depicted in the 1936 film "San Francisco" staring Clark Gable & Jeanette MacDonald . The Chickensin Chickens Ball refer to leggy women in feathery costumes. And you missed the fact that each night's peformance is judged by panel of local luminaries, which this year includes Sheriff Greg Munks, County Supervisor Don Horsley, among others. By the way, yoiu must be 16 to attend the show.
