Ask School Board Candidates Anything Tuesday

A candidate forum is planned for Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.

Contributed by Karen Molinari:

This fall, voters in San Carlos will elect three School District Governing Board Members from a field of four candidates. To help the community learn more about these candidates, the San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF), San Carlos PTA Coordinating Council (PTACC) and the San Mateo County League of Women Voters (LWV) will sponsor a Candidate Forum.

The forum will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the conference room of the new San Carlos School District office located at 1200 Industrial Road, Unit 9B, San Carlos.

Two appointed board members, Carol Elliott and Kathleen Farley are running for election, along with candidates Nicole Bergeron and Sarah Stiefel. All four candidates have served our schools and community in a variety of roles. The forum will provide the opportunity for each candidate to share their vision for the district and their position on the important issues before the Board, and for community members to ask questions of each of the candidates.

The LWV of North and Central San Mateo County will moderate the forum and field questions from the audience. SCEF and the PTA Coordinating Council (made up of representatives from all seven schools in our district) are pleased to co-sponsor this event with the LWV, as part of our ongoing mission to provide a strong voice for education in our community.

The San Carlos School District Board of Education consists of five Governing Board Members, who are elected to four-year terms. These terms are staggered so that the three members we elect in November will serve with the other two current Board members, Adam Rak and Seth Rosenblatt.

When we vote for School District Governing Board Members, we are truly voting on the future of our district as the trustees’ responsibilities include setting district policies, overseeing the district administration, articulating the district vision, and providing fiscal stewardship.

We encourage community members and parents with children in the school district to join us at the candidate forum, to learn more about these candidates and the issues affecting our district, and to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5. We look forward to a great opportunity to shape the future of our schools.
