San Carlos Recognized For Being Green

The city is the first in the county to receive this honor.

The city of San Carlos has been selected as one of 20 cities, and the first in San Mateo County, to be accepted into the Institute for Local Government's awards program, the Beacon Award, recognizing cities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy.

"San Carlos is proud to be one of the small group of cities and counties in California that have received approval to join the Beacon Award Program,” said Mayor Andy Klein. “ I have been impressed with the Institute for Local Government's work to share best practices in Green Programs, Climate Protection, Sustainability and Public Engagement with cities and counties from around the State.”

San Carlos is being recognized in the Beacon Award program for its work in Green Programs and Sustainability, according to a statement released by the city. The city has previously received three awards for their climate action plan, and innovative programs for cell phone and battery recycling.
