Randy Royce Speaks Out On Being Named 'Citizen of the Year'

The former Mayor and city councilman shared his thoughts with San Carlos Patch.

Randy Royce agreed to share his thoughts with San Carlos Patch regarding recently being honored as the 2011 San Carlos Citizen of the Year.

“It was quite a shock,” said Randy Royce, from his home in San Carlos.

The always humble Royce took the opportunity to thank the many people who contribute to keeping San Carlos a thriving city.

“A part of me is mixed,” said Royce, “because there are thousands of people, even as we talk on the phone, that are out there volunteering, helping out. So I feel weird beng honored as an individual when it takes a group. All of these people contribute everyday to the fabric of volunteerism that keeps San Carlos great.”

The former Mayor and city councilman reflected on his 30 years as a resident and remembered working closely with a former Citizen of the Year, Audi Justus, a volunteer who was an integral contributor to many San Carlos activities and fundraisers.

“Audi was just a champion and to be mentioned in the same category as her is such a great honor,” Royce said.

Royce went on to say he looks forward to January 19 when he’ll have one more chance to address the people of San Carlos and highlight the great progress the city has made.

Jim Fahnestock was named the 2010 Citizen of the Year, and avid volunteer Neil Chichizola was awarded in 2009.
