Over 500 people attended last night’s memorial service in honor of former Mayor Randy Royce at the Hiller Aviation Museum. The program was hosted by San Carlos Mayor Bob Grassilli and featured comments from Congress Member Jackie Speier and Assembly Member Rich Gordon (both personal friends of Randy Royce) as well as Ernie Von Emster, Russ Colombo, Ron Granville, sons Roger and Todd and wife Yvette.

There was also a presentation of the flag by the Sheriff’s Honor Guard, a slideshow of Randy’s life and time afterwards for friends of Randy to share stories and memories.

The speakers noted that they had been asked to participate by Randy himself as he planned the event just before his passing.  After completing the invites, two days before his passing, Randy reportedly told his family that he was “feeling like a Million Dollars” and offered a thumbs up sign.

Yvette Royce thanked the speakers, especially Congress Member Speier, who she noted was in Istanbul, Turkey just days before.  Speier said she wouldn’t miss the memorial and said Randy was a “Coach” to many in his life.  She also said she was going to ignore Randy’s request that she only speak for 10 minutes to provide more details of his amazing life to all in attendance.
