Judge Orders 60-Day Cooling Off Period in BART Negotiations

The two unions won't be able to strike before October 10.

By Bay City News

A San Francisco Superior Court Judge Sunday morning ordered a 60-day cooling-off period for BART and its two main unions, averting the chance of a strike before October 10.

In his ruling, Judge Curtis Karnow said a potential work stoppage by BART employees would substantially disrupt public transportation and threaten public safety and welfare.

Attorneys for BART and its two unions the Service Employees International Union Local 1021 and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555 voiced no objection to the judge's ruling at this morning's hearing.
