“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Randy Royce. He had a heart as big as San Carlos, and a vision of community well-being that embraced all ages. Randy served the city’s residents in multiple roles besides the important step of serving as its Mayor. He was a volunteer promoting the economic and cultural development of the city.

“Of course, his signature role was as a soccer coach, and I’m sure that today many former players will be saddened to learn of his passing. Perhaps his long struggle with cancer was his ultimate example for us all, carried out in quiet dignity and in defiance of the odds for many, many years.

“I visited him at home a few weeks ago.  He was philosophical despite the obvious pain. His peace has now arrived. My heart and prayers are with Yvette, Roger and Todd, his pillars of strength and a family that gave so much time, side-by-side with Randy, to their neighbors and community. Let us remember Randy and hope that we can leave our lives with the thanks of so many we have touched.”
