Going to Traffic Court? Better Get There Early

Sacramento's slicing and dicing is hitting close to home at the County Clerk's office.

State budget cuts have forced the San Mateo County Superior Court clerk's office in Redwood City to reduce its public service hours beginning Feb. 4, court officials have announced.

The changes are a direct result of state-imposed budged cuts to the county trial courts, which have totaled more than $1 billion over the past five years, court officials said.

Beginning Feb. 4, public service hours for civil, small claims, family law, probate and juvenile court will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Traffic and criminal public service hours will be Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.

The records division will continue to be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday but will close at noon on Fridays.

Phone hours for all offices will be Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Document drop boxes are located outside each clerk's office for filing papers or submitting payments.
