About four out of five child safety seats are being used incorrectly, police say, but parents seeking peace of mind can go to the on Saturday morning, where experts will be checking child seats for proper installation and use.
Assemblyman Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, will be on hand as well, and invites all local parents for first-come-first-served inspections of child safety seats.
Seats will be inspected from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Beethoven Lot 2 of the college, located at 1700 West Hillsdale Blvd., San Mateo.
“We see at least 80 percent have incorrectly installed the car seat or incorrectly harnessed the child in the car seat,” said Benjamin Arias, coordinator for Safe Kids Santa Clara County/San Mateo County, which collaborated with Hill to put on the event.
Arias said Safe Kids works with different groups to hold these free checks throughout the year. Parents can also have the seats checked at Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford by calling 650-736-2981 to make a free appointment.
