Reminder: Tonight's GESC Community Meeting Will Address Issues With Transit Village Project

The Greater East San Carlos Neighborhood Association will meet Wednesday evening to discuss mitigations to the Transit Village Project.

The revised plans for the Transit Village Project will be on view Wednesday night during a meeting of the Greater East San Carlos (GESC) Neighborhood Association.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Laureola Community Center in Laureola Park.

Residents of have been outspoken about the project, which has been five years in the making and is considered one of the city’s largest development projects, representing 70 percent of future housing growth.

The 10.5-acre development site adjacent to the San Carlos Caltrain Station, is to include eight new buildings comprised of multiple-family dwelling units, office and retail space and underground parking.

Throughout the process, GESC has commented on drafts of the project as well as the final Economic Impact Report (EIR). Members of the association say they have been unsuccessful in getting resolution on these issues to date, which should also be of concern to west side residents.

At a July 2012 meeting of the San Carlos Planning Commissioner, GESC resident told commissioners, "The fabrications and falsehoods that pose as conclusions in the final EIR document are breathtaking in their disregard of valid and well reasoned community concerns.”

[The Environmental Impact Report, required by the California Environmental Quality Act, was developed for these proposals, which can also be found on the city's website]

At Wednesday’s meeting, GESC will address a variety of issues in hopes of persuading San Carlos City Council to modify the project.

Legacy Partners, the project developer will be on hand to present the latest plans and to hear community feedback.

Other agenda items and suggested mitigations to be discussed:

  • GESC will present mitigations for the project, including higher height and density
  • Landscaping
  • Traffic, shuttles and parking
  • Improvements to all pedestrian crossings adjacent to the project
Organizers say a private community meeting will be held at the conclusion of the Legacy Partners presentation to discuss the proposal.

The GESC Neighborhood Association meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Laureola Community Center in Laureola Park.
