City Treasurer Seat To Be Contested For First Time in 24 Years

Harold Schuette is breaking with tradition.

The retired banker and former member of the City's Economic Development Advisory Commission pulled papers to run for the office of City Treasurer Monday afternoon, confirmed assistant city manager Brian Moura.

Schuette's run for city treasurer against incumbent Mike Galvin will mark the first time the seat has been contested since 1987.

"The last time the office of City Treasurer was contested was when former Council Member Gayton De Rosa was on the ballot with Mike Galvin," said Moura.  "Galvin won the election and has been the City Treasurer since that time."

Prior to that election, Moura said, Al Hons, a retired Cost Accountant who worked at Del Monte Corp. served as the San Carlos City Treasurer.

Galvin has already been certified for the November ballot by the County Registrar of Voters for the office of City Treasurer, said Moura.
