City Offers New Online Bill Payment System

Residents can now pay their utility bill on the Redwood City web site.

Thanks to a new online system, Redwood City residents can now pay their utility bills by logging onto the city's Web site.

By clicking here, residents can enroll in the digital payment system through selecting the "Pay Your Utility Bill" icon under the Online Services tab.

Customers will then need to follow these quick steps to finish the registration process:

  • Enter the “book account number” and your utility service address, then read and accept the terms of service by clicking on the “I Agree” button.
  • Click “Yes – continue” when prompted to confirm you’ve entered the correct account, or “No-Take Me Back” if you need to make corrections.
  • Follow the quick prompts to complete the registration.

Once registration is complete, customers will be able to track their account activity, and also set up automatic payment if they desire.

City spokesman Malcolm Smith said in a prepared statement that the new system benefits not only residents, but also the city.

"You have less paper shuffling and hard-copy filing, and no need for requesting and waiting for duplicate bills because it’s all online. And there’s no check-writing or postage, so you save a little money there," said Smith.

"It’s more efficient for the City’s operation, too."

Residents who have questions or request assistance in the registration process are encouraged to call (650) 780-7210.

What's not clear is whether those who already have their RWC utility bill on "Auto-Pay" need to sign up using the new "Online Bill Pay" or will their Auto-Pay continue normally?

Glad RWC has caught up with everyone else! My utility bill was the only one I didn't pay online. Green and convenient! Also very easy to enroll.

Reality Check -- I had the same question. I just checked with the City and was told that if you are already on "Auto-Pay" you do need to enroll in the new system because the old system will go away in about a month.

Thanks for checking on this and reporting back. (I have since got the same answer but neglected to report back here ... shame on me!) I wonder when the city was going to tell us this? There must be many more either wondering the same thing or just wrongly assuming the city would have warned them if any action was necessary on their part.
