City Council to Select New Mayor and Vice-Mayor

The appointments will take place on Monday, May 14.

The San Carlos City Council has been in semi-constant flux this last year, incurring overwhelming change after Mayor Omar Ahmad suddenly passed away one-year ago, followed by the equally sudden resignation of his successor, Andy Klein, last month.

On Monday, May 14, the city will select the new Mayor and Vice-Mayor for the remainder of 2012.

The current council - Vice-Mayor Matt Grocott, Mark Olbert, Ron Collins, and Bob Grassilli - will vote on the appointments that will last until the end of the year.

The council will also determine a method to fill the seat vacancy left by Klein's departure. Last year, the council held a special series of interviews to fill Ahmad's seat. Former Mayor Brad Lewis was ultimately named to the council.

As Vice-Mayor, Grocott would be a likely choice for Mayor, having served in the position before. The chair of Vice-Mayor is less clear. Should it be a matter of seniority, Grassilli would be the obvious choice, as Olbert and Collins were voted onto the council this past November.

The council may choose to promote one of the newer members to Mayor or Vice-Mayor, however.
