Candidates' Financing Revealed in Latest Filings

Information just released by the Federal Election Commission and the California Secretary of State shows incumbents are able to raise healthy amounts of money compared to their challengers.

In her fight to beat Jerry Hill for the 13th District state senate seat, Sally Lieber says she is "campaigning as Sally ‘Less Money’ Lieber. I don’t have the big money on my side."

Campaign funding information for the most recently measured election period mirrors Lieber's claims.

Hill has raised a little over $350,000 in contributions. Lieber has raised less than $20,000. Hill has spent nearly $232,000, Lieber less than $11,000. Lieber does have cash on hand; over $213,000. Hill's campaign bank account shows about $269,500.

Data released late last week shows wide variations in the amounts of money candidates in San Mateo County have raised in the period between March 18 - May 19, how much they have spent, and how much cash they have on hand. The data comes from the Federal Election Commission and the California Secretary of State.
