November Election Nominations Open July 18 in San Carlos

The election for two city council seats will be held Nov. 8

The candidate filing period for upcoming elections in San Carlos opens July 18.

There are two seats on the five-member city council up for election this November.

City Council member Randy Royce will vie for a second term. No other candidates have filed paperwork as of yet.

The seat of the late Omar Ahmad will also be decided. Councilmember Brad Lewis will be filling the seat temporarily.

“City Council and City Treasurer Candidates will need to come in to the City Clerk’s Office to pick up their election binders,” said assistant city manager Brian Moura.

The city council voted in Brad Lewis, who interviewed for the position, beating out 11 other candidates.  Many candidates who were not selected expressed interest in running in the November 8 election.

Candidate packets, including nomination papers and other required forms, will be available to any interested candidate beginning Monday, July 18.

The deadline to file papers as a candidate is Friday, Aug. 12. If any one incumbent has not filed nomination papers by the Aug. 12 deadline, further nomination of candidates, other than incumbents, for such elective office will be received until 5 p.m. on Aug. 17.

According to Moura, Mark Church, the Registrar of Voters, usually conducts workshops on how to run for office in San Mateo County for candidates and their election teams.
