Firefighters Control Two-Alarm Blaze in Redwood City

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of a structure fire at 1061 Madison Avenue.

A two-alarm fire erupted at a duplex near Red Morton Park at 12:45 p.m. today, according to Battalion Chief Stan Maupin.

Firefighters were able to control the fire within 45 minutes, and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire was unknown, as the owner said that all the appliances were off. Fire investigators are still looking into the case.

“All occupants were out of the building on arrival,” Maupin said. "The main body of the fire was in the garage and the roof."

Eight engine trucks, two ladder trucks and seven fire chiefs were on hand for a total of 46 personnel, a typical amount for a two-alarm fire, according to Maupin. Departments from across the Peninsula arrived to aid the , including departments from Woodside, Foster City, Belmont-San Carlos, San Mateo County Fire, Menlo Park, South San Francisco and Central County.

PG&E was also at the scene to secure the gas lines.

“Nothing super important was damaged,” said Mary G., the niece of the residence owner who had recently moved out of the front property. “Just my new washer and dryer.” She added that the items in the attic that burned were “just arts and crafts.”
