The U.S. Coast Guard pulled two people out of the water under the Golden Gate Bridge Friday night who later died due to drowning.
According to KGO, the victims were a father and son who drowned after being swept away by a large wave while fishing.
San Francisco residents Juan Escamillo-Rojas, 37, and his son, 9-year-old Juan Carlos Escamillo-Monroy were identified. A third person survived.
Officials said they were fishing at Bonita Cove near the Golden Gate Bridge when a large wave knocked them into the water.
The two men were able to grab onto a rock. It's believed that Escamillo-Rojas swam from the rock in an effort to rescue his son, but both were swept away.
The third man managed to make it back to shore and flagged down bystanders, who called 911.
The two people were pulled from the water by a Tiburon fire boat and taken to a Coast Guard station for evaluation by medics, according to the Coast Guard.
