Two Guns, Cocaine Found on Red-Light Runner

A Fremont man was arrested in San Carlos after running a red light.

A 26-year-old driver pulled over for running a red light in San Carlos Sunday afternoon was then arrested when a sheriff's deputy found drugs and two guns in the car, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Around 12:35 p.m. a San Mateo County Sheriff's deputy who is part of the San Carlos Police Bureau, stopped a white, 2002 four-door Buick LeSabre for allegedly running a red light at the San Carlos Avenue and Laurel Street intersection, according to the sheriff's office.

Apparently a marijuana odor from the car was detected when the deputy contacted the driver, identified as Joseph Knight, of Fremont. The Buick was then searched, sheriff's officials said.

During the search, an allegedly stolen .357-caliber revolver was found in the passenger compartment, as was more than a half-ounce of cocaine, six containers of marijuana, several digital scales, and packaging materials believed to be used to distribute illegal narcotics, sheriff's officials said.

A second gun, a Ruger semi-automatic handgun, was found in the trunk. Both the revolver and handgun were found loaded, sheriff's officials said.

Knight was booked into San Mateo County jail without incident and is facing seven criminal charges, officials said.
