On Eve of First Day of School, A Message from Sheriff's Office

Extra patrol deputies, along with an increase in motorcycle traffic units will be in San Carlos school zones and the surrounding neighborhoods.

[Editor's note: The following was submitted by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office San Carlos Patrol Bureau.]

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office San Carlos Patrol Bureau reminds you that Schools are now back in session. The first day of school for the San Carlos School District is Wednesday, August 28th.

This is an exciting time for many families who have children starting school for the first time, or who have children making the transition to middle school and high school.

Please allow yourself extra time for travel and be patient during the commute. Some school zones currently still have roadway construction in progress, so be extra vigilant as some streets and parking area configurations have changed.

Extra patrol deputies, along with an increase in motorcycle traffic units will concentrate their efforts on identifying traffic infractions in school zones and the surrounding neighborhoods. Infractions include speeding, stop sign violations and failing to Yield to Pedestrians in crosswalks will be strictly enforced, as will parking in red zones.

Expect children to be walking or riding bikes to and from school between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Obey the speed limits and stay alert. Reduce any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Put down your cell phone and don’t talk or text while driving.

The most important reason to drive carefully is the safety of our children. Please do your part to keep our students safe.
