A hazmat team is working to identify a bright green substance found in a creek in Redwood City Tuesday evening, a Redwood City fire battalion chief said.

Around 6:30 p.m., a resident near Canyon Road and Glenwood Avenue reported the unknown substance in a nearby creek, Redwood City fire Battalion Chief Dave Pucci said.

He said the Belmont Fire Department Hazmat Team has been called in and is working to identify the substance, which looks like radiator fluid.

Pucci said it will take a few hours to identify the substance. He said there is no apparent public safety hazard, but there could be an environmental danger.

No roads are closed because of the incident and no injuries have been reported, he said.
