Mountain Lion Spotted on Melendy Drive in San Carlos

The big cat reportedly walked in front of a woman's car near the water shed property.

A woman driving westbound on Melendy Drive Monday night reported that a mountain lion crossed in front of her car just east of Crestview Drive, close to Regent Court.

According to the a message sent by SMC Alert Tuesday morning, the sighting happened at around 11:00 p.m. Monday near the California water shed property.

The motorist immediately reported the sighting and deputies arrived within minutes and conducted an extensive ground search of the area.

Deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, San Carlos Police Bureau say they did not locate the big cat, and because human activity in that particular area, at that hour of the evening, was nonexistent, public safety was not immediately threatened.

Anyone who encounters a mountain lion is encouraged to stay clear of the animal and call the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, San Carlos Police Bureau, immediately at 650-802-4277.
