Caltrain riders were told to expect delays Friday morning as a result of the fatality.

A man was fatally struck on the Caltrain tracks near the agency's Atherton station Friday morning, a spokeswoman said.

The pedestrian was struck at about 7:15 a.m. by a northbound train passing through the Atherton station at 1 Dinkelspiel Station Lane, Caltrain spokeswoman Jayme Ackemann said.

The train does not stop at the Atherton station on weekdays, Ackemann said.

Train service was stopped in both directions following the fatality. Bus shuttles briefly took passengers around the area of the incident, but trains were single-tracking past the scene as of 8:30 a.m., Ackemann said.

She said Caltrain passengers can expect delays of up to an hour this morning as a result of the death.
