A transient man believed to be connected to several home burglaries in San Mateo County over the last two months was arrested Friday following an investigation by the sheriff's department, sheriff's officials said.
A total of 23 homes in the city of San Carlos have been burglarized during daytime hours over the last two months, sheriff's officials said, and the thief or thieves have mainly taken jewelry.
Detectives analyzed evidence left at the scene to attempt to identify suspects, including fingerprints and shoe prints left at the scene.
On Monday, deputies contacted Aaron Tadday in the 600 block of Park Avenue in San Carlos and found him in possession of men's and women's jewelry. Tadday could not explain why he had the jewelry and deputies confiscated it.
On Wednesday deputies determined that the confiscated jewelry matched the description of jewelry taken in the 1200 block of Howard Avenue last Sunday.
Deputies then tried to find Tadday again, and discovered he was
staying at the Deluxe Inn at 1502 Stafford St. in Redwood City.
Deputies arrived at the motel at around 4:30 p.m. but Tadday had
fled the room, sheriff's officials said. More jewelry was found in his room.
A warrant was issued for Tadday's arrest, and on Friday at 11:45
a.m. deputies found him at the America's Best Inn at 1090 El Camino Real in
Redwood City.
Tadday was booked into San Mateo County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday. Investigators believe that Tadday is responsible for many but not all of the 23 recent burglaries in San Carlos.
