New Department Seeks Firefighters

The application process for firefighters, paramedics and a fire captain for the hybrid department between San Carlos and Redwood City begins today.

The application process to select firefighters and paramedics for the San Carlos/Redwood City hybrid department began this morning.

 The search for a fire captain has also begun, as the city is accepting applications for all positions.

 For firefighters and paramedics, the recruitment may end anytime after the city receives more than 500 applicants. The recruitment may end after 50 applications are received for a fire captain.

 “Although negotiations with Redwood City over the management of the new San Carlos Fire Department have not yet been completed, both agencies understand the need to move quickly to recruit for these positions so that the new department can be up and running by the October 13, 2011 start date,” the city said in a statement on its website.

“In an effort to share expertise, resources and save money, the two cities have agreed to participate in a joint recruitment for the positions of Firefighter and Firefighter Paramedic.”
