Update: Fire Continues to Burn at Metal Recycling Facility, Those Who Smell Smoke Advised to Shelter in Place

The one-alarm fire was reported at 1:20 p.m. at Sims Metal Management on Seaport Road.

The metal debris fire continues to burn at the Sims Metal Management, located in the 600 block of Seaport Road.  San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services is asking anyone who smells smoke to shelter in place.

Firefighters were responding to a fire burning at a metal recycling facility near the Port of Redwood City this afternoon, a dispatcher said.
           
The fire was reported at about 1:20 p.m. at Sims Metal Management, located in the 600 block of Seaport Road, the dispatcher said.
           
The one-alarm fire was burning in an outdoor pile of scrap recyclables, the dispatcher said.
           
No injuries have been reported, though heavy smoke could be seen coming from the facility.
           
The fire could take as long as three hours to be fully extinguished, the dispatcher said.
           
No evacuations were necessary, but residents in the area who smelled smoke were being advised to stay inside.
