DUI Checkpoint to Be Set Up in San Carlos This Week

The 'Avoid the 23' campaign will be in full swing this holiday weekend, with a DUI checkpoint set up at El Camino Real and St. Francis Way.

The San Mateo County Avoid the 23 will be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, July 5 at El Camino Real and St. Francis in San Carlos.

Avoid the 23 DUI enforcement activities will be held in conjunction with other special DUI enforcement patrols occurring throughout San Mateo County as part of the statewide Drunk Driving, Over the Limit enforcement campaign.

Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily, according to a press release sent out by the Daly City Police Department.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail time, license suspension and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
