Caltrain Fatally Strikes Man near San Carlos Station

Trains in the area have turned around.

A man was hit and killed by a train near the San Carlos Caltrain station at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, Caltrain spokesperson Christine Dunn said.

"The fatality occurred just north of the border between Belmont and San Carlos, near Bragato Road," Dunn said. "There is no vehicle or pedestrian crossing at the site."

There were 125 people on the train, none of whom were injured. They were released from the train when it pulled into the San Carlos station at 1:55, an hour after the man was killed.

A SamTrans bus bridge was established from Redwood City to Belmont, but train service has since resumed slowly northbound and faster southbound. Trains in the area are no more than 36 minutes behind schedule.

SamTrans is continuing to honor Caltrain tickets in the aftermath of the death.
