Belmont, Redwood City Teens Accused in Smash-and-Grab Gas Station Theft

Sheriff's officials say the boys, both 15, took off with $100 in tobacco from the San Carlos gas station.

Two 15-year-old boys were arrested for allegedly taking tobacco from a Chevron gas station in San Carlos early Friday morning, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a burglary alarm that sounded at the Chevron at 90 El Camino Real around 12:40 a.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said. Upon arrival, deputies found a large window facing Hull Drive had been smashed, Rosenblatt said.

A perimeter was set up around the gas station and surrounding area with the assistance of Belmont police, she said. Around 1:15 a.m., deputies found the boys in the vicinity of Hull Drive and Laurel Street, according to Rosenblatt.

The teens, one a resident of Belmont and the other a resident of Redwood City resident, were both arrested for burglary and taken to the sheriff's San Carlos office for processing before being released to their parents, she said.

The teens stole about $100 worth of tobacco products, according to Rosenblatt.
