Belmont Police Seeking Driver Who Hit Woman in Wheelchair

The incident occurred in front of the McDonald's restaurant in Belmont on Thursday.

Police are seeking a driver who allegedly left after striking a woman in a wheelchair in Belmont on Thursday evening.

The 48-year-old woman was going south on the west side of the 500 block of El Camino Real in Belmont at about 6:45 p.m. Thrusday when she was struck by a
vehicle turning into the driveway of a McDonald's restaurant there, police
said.

The vehicle, a black Mercedes sedan, stopped and its driver apparently had some sort of interaction with the woman but left before officers arrived, according to police.

The woman's disability makes communication difficult so police do not yet know what the driver's interaction was with her.

She was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries from the crash and is expected to survive, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes is being asked by investigators to come forward to provide a statement about the collision. Anyone who has information about the incident is also asked to call the traffic unit of Belmont police at (650) 595-7400.
