Amazon Smile for painless PanCan donations; next webinar; Importance of Clinical Trials

There are three elements to this post: Amazon Smile for donations; next webinar; Importance of Clinical Trials

Here is a great opportunity to make a painless contribution to the charity of your choice, for which the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is my preference, of course.  Amazon.com now has a program called Smile for which 0.5% of every purchase is contributed to charity.

It could not be easier to enroll!

I put Amazon Smile into the Amazon search box and it came back with a screen asking which charity for them to send 0.5% of purchase. Red Cross is their preferred charity, but typing Pancreatic Cancer Action Network into the option box brings up a short list.  Pancreatic Cancer Action Network HQ in Manhattan Beach comes up first.

Now our Prime account shows slightly different information in the upper left corner, i.e. the account is Amazon Smile Prime ... with all the same privileges as Prime, while PanCan is explicitly shown as beneficiary.  I assume this works the same if you don’t happen to have a Prime account.

I would note that clinical trials are particularly important (as shown below). I am convinced I would not have survived but for my enrollment in a Phase 2 Clinical Trial.

Clinical trials depend on you. Trouble viewing this email? View in browser.

Dear Richard,

Dr. Vincent Picozzi

4.5 Percent. This is the approximate percentage of the 45,000+ people diagnosed annually with pancreatic cancer who participate in a clinical trial. This percentage needs to increase for swifter development of better treatment options.

As an oncologist specializing in pancreatic cancer treatment, I discuss clinical trials with patients who have just been diagnosed, and revisit their trial options each time we consider changes in treatment. Trials often deliver the most effective treatment for today, and they will lead to improved future treatments. We can enter a new era of treatment advances with your help.

Recent research shows that a high percentage of patients, and their family members, are unaware of clinical trials. You can make a difference. If you are facing pancreatic cancer, please discuss clinical trials with your treatment team.

January is National Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trials Awareness Month. If you have discussed clinical trials, or been on a trial, I offer my profound gratitude on behalf of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To others, please join us in this fight. Consider clinical trials. Contact the Patient and Liaison Services (PALS) Program for a personalized and simplified trial search. More information can be found at pancan.org/clinicaltrials. Or call 877-272-6226, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Eastern Time.

Together, we can make a breakthrough.

Respectfully, Vincent Picozzi
