The Great Escape: Go Swimming

This week, free your mind in the water.

Having trouble getting your regular jog in with the neverending rain? Consider going for a swim instead.

Swimming is a fantastic form of exercise. It is easy on the joints, fun and refreshing. Along the Peninsula, there are several places to swim, rain or shine.

The (3623 Jefferson Ave, Redwood City) offers indoor and outdoor pools and a full range of aquatics programs for all ages. If you are interested in competitive swimming, there are teams for children, teens and adults.

In Menlo Park, the Burgess Aquatic Facility (501 Laurel St, Menlo Park) is available, featuring an instructional pool, a performance pool and a baby pool. In the winter months, the instructional pool is covered with an inflated dome to keep it warm. Masters swimming is available through Menlo Swim and Sport and additional competitive programs are available through Solo Aquatics.

Also consider the Sequoia YMCA (1445 Hudson St, Redwood City), which boasts an indoor pool. Lap swimming, swim lessons and water aerobic classes are available.

On the edge of Belmont in San Mateo,  Highlands Recreation Center (1851 Lexington Ave, San Mateo) has a dome-covered pool that is open year-round and also offers classes and programs.

In the summer months, there are additional pools available in the area.

The outdoor (100 Terminal Ave, Menlo Park) offers similar competitive programs as the Burgess Facility.

Swim classes and free swimming days are offered at (1400 Alameda de Las Pulgas, Belmont) as well, through the .
