My mother recently completed a genealogical study of my family. You see we had 2 ancestors, Edward and Samuel Fuller, who were on the Mayflower, so my mom wanted to figure out if we were related to any US Presidents. The Fuller geneaological tree is extremely well-documented back to Redenhall, England 1568 where a butcher named Robert Fuller had 5 wives, many children, a few plots of land, and major sway in the meat business. The results of my mother's survey are inspirational: It turns out that I'm related to all 44 US Presidents (Please see attached document). I'm the 8th cousin, 1 time removed of Franklin D. Roosevelt, 9th cousin, 7 times removed of George Washington, and the 12th cousin, 4 times removed of Abe Lincoln. My most distant relation was the Dutch-named Martin Van Buren (19th cousin, 6 times removed). And perhaps the closest of all my presidential relations is George W. Bush (9th cousin, 0 times removed), the self-proclaimed "Decider" of the USA from 2001-2009. Well, recently I was talking to a good man whom I supported for City Council. A true gentleman who treats others with dignity and respect, who played baseball in Laureola Park, and who campaigned on a platform of doing the right thing on the San Carlos Transit Village. He said it wouldn't be easy, and it hasn't, but this man is well positioned to forge a compromise between the developers who want something too large and our neighborhood who want to maintain our American way of life in the City of Good Living. The water under the bridge of this process was the approval of the Final EIR for the SCTV, which stated erroneously that this project would have no significant adverse impacts on the surrounding neighborhood. This gentleman voted for it, saying that he preferred to get on with a discussion of the merits of the project. And as much as I question the EIR, I had to take this fine man at his word and trust his sterling backroom abilities to bring about meaningful change. Mr. City Council Member, whether you like it or not, it appears you have become the "Decider". We kindly request that you work across the aisle to save San Carlos for future generations. Please find a way to bring Liberty and Justice for all.
