San Carlos Boy's Birthday Wish: Help Hungry Kids

The Tierra Linda sixth-grader asked friends and family to donate to a charity instead of giving him birthday presents.

When Jonathan Garvin's father asked him what he'd like for his 11th birthday, the Tierra Linda sixth-grader told his dad he didn't need any birthday presents this year.

Jonathan, who turns 11 on Tuesday, said he would rather ask that his friends and family donate to a charity for children in need.

After a bit of research, Jonathan's mother, Terri Rooney said her son decided on the organization, Feeding America's Hungry Children. Jonathan set up a donation website after telling his friends and family he has raised $875 for the charity.

"I asked him this morning when he awoke to no presents and only cards if he had any regrets about his decision and he said with a big smile, 'Nope Mom. I made the right choice,'" said Terri.

Terri hopes Jonathan's act of selflessness and kindness is contagious and that it inspires others to make generous choices for those in need.
