Tuesday's of El Camino Real's first paving brought back a lot of nostalgia.
In 1912, when the first segment of El Camino was paved in San Bruno, it was a much simpler time.
Now that El Camino has evolved into a state highway and is a major connector between 19 cities throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, it serves many purposes.
What remains the same is how much the thoroughfare has become a lifeline, as Congresswoman Jackie Speier put it, for the Peninsula.
So take a look at the photo gallery to see how El Camino Real, known as the Grand Boulevard, has changed over the years.
